Tap.X/Platform
What is Tap.X?

The platform for industrial test systems.

Tap.X is a universally usable software platform for test systems in production, development, service, and analysis. The platform combines the openness of OpenTAP with the system functions required for industrial test environments.

Why OpenTAP?

OpenTAP is the test engine.
Tap.X is the platform around it.

OpenTAP forms the foundation for test sequences, test steps, parameterization, and modular extensions. Tap.X adds the productive application layer and turns an open framework into an industrial-grade overall solution. Eight reasons why we build on OpenTAP instead of a proprietary in-house development.

01

Open standard instead of a proprietary island

Transparent, extensible sequencer core — no black-box in-house development.

02

Reuse through plugins and packages

Test steps, drivers, DUTs, and Result Listeners as versioned packages. Controlled distribution and targeted updates.

03

Flexible for every test scenario

Sequential or parallel. From engineering benches and manual test stations to automated multi-station systems.

04

Separation of sequencer and operation

OpenTAP provides the stable core. Tap.X provides UI, roles, workflows, approvals, and production operation above it.

05

Foundation for connected systems

OpenTAP Runner and NATS communication enable remote control, central management, and edge/cloud scenarios.

06

Audit-capable foundation

Result Listeners, logs, stored test plan revisions, package versions. Tap.X adds complete governance.

07

Modern technology stack

.NET, C#, Python support, cross-platform. Long-term maintainable and connectable.

08

No vendor lock-in

Open source, open documentation, own plugin ecosystem. Customers keep control over test logic and hardware.

OpenTAP vs. Tap.X

Clear separation —
clear roles.

OpenTAP and Tap.X are not competitors, but two layers of the same solution.

Often misunderstood

OpenTAP is a test sequencer — not a programming language.

OpenTAP is a flow controller developed specifically for test systems. Test steps, hardware drivers, DUTs, and Result Listeners are developed as OpenTAP plugins — preferably in C# or Python. LabVIEW is also possible.

Architecture

Cleanly layered.
OpenTAP at the core.

Tap.X builds on OpenTAP as the technical test core and turns it into a scalable industrial test platform. Three clear layers — one modular architecture.

Technology

Modern. Lean.
Prepared for tomorrow.

UI

App-based user interface

Modern application UI with consistent operation — no toolbox look, no technical barrier for non-developer roles.

Cross-Platform

Windows · Linux · Embedded

Designed cross-platform — from embedded testers to engineering benches. Platform approvals are handled per application.

Footprint

Low resource requirements

Runs on compact industrial PCs, embedded targets, and scalable production environments.

Data

PostgreSQL as data foundation

Standardized, high-performance data storage for traceability, reports, and analysis — on-prem or in your own data center.

Cloud-ready

Prepared for connected test systems

Central monitoring, cross-site analysis, remote dashboards. Cloud connectivity is an architectural capability — not a marketing phrase.

Open core

OpenTAP — no vendor lock-in

Open-source core, own test steps, hardware integrations, and extensions. Investment-safe.

Who approved what
One answer, not ten.

Versioned test sequences, controlled approvals using the four-eyes principle, and complete traceability — from creation to the individual test result.

  • Versioned tests — every change is historized.
  • Released versions are read-only. Drafts run alongside them.
  • Anchored per test run: test version, parameters, plugins, hardware, logs.
  • PostgreSQL as the data foundation for analysis and reproducibility.
